I received a B.A. in Art from UNC-Asheville where I studied ceramics, focusing on hand-built ceramic sculpture. In a fast-paced modern world, I appreciate the slow, contemplative process of hand-building with clay and its roots in our human tradition.
My sculptures are built from large clay coils, joined and smoothed by hand, then patted into the desired shape with a wooden paddle. I draw my designs on the surface of the form before using a variety of tools to carve into the clay. The sculptures are fired with low fire glazes.
I choose my images to honor the natural world; the world of trees, plants, and animals- sky, earth, and water - the sun, moon, stars and planets. This is where I find value, inspiration, and a sense of connectedness with the divine creative forces of life.
I hope that people will feel this influence when they spend time with my work. Please enjoy it in your home, or outdoors in your yard or garden, on your patio or deck. (Do not leave outside in freezing temperatures.)
